Dana Pattern Release

There’s a story behind this quilt…. are you ready?

When I was a few months old, I wound up at the same daycare as another little baby named Michelle. Michelle and I grew up together and were frequently misidentified as sisters. We vacationed together, went to camp together, spent an entire summer making up weird haiku poems about raccoons… needless to say, we were (are?) kind of dorky. We’ve been best friends our whole lives, and so when she went off to college I heard a lot about her college roommate: Dana. Over the years I came to feel like I knew Dana, so when I finally met her at Michelle’s wedding we hit it off immediately! After seeing the quilt I gave Michelle for her wedding, Dana commissioned a queen sized quilt from me.

After several design iterations and some really fun collaboration, we wound up with this design! I loved it so much I knew I had to write a pattern, and of course it had to be named after Dana.

This version of the Dana quilt is extra special because it was pieced by my amazing friend, Justine of Great Heron Thread Co, and quilted by the fantastic Debbie of Sweet Little Quilts. We brought it on vacation with us and I’m pretty sure it was meant to be among the Ponderosas and Aspens! Want to hear an extra, kind of weird twist? These pictures are taken in the same place that Michelle and I visited every summer as kids, AND this pattern is being released on the 1 year anniversary of that wedding that brought us all together. On accident! Spooky!

The Dana quilt is a fun, ambitious beginner pattern that uses flying geese and half square triangles alternated with simple four patched crossing blocks. It’s a great way to learn and practice some basic quilt blocks, and I can’t wait to see what you create with it!
