I’ve been sewing my whole life, really. Or, at least since my grandmother gave me a needle, thread, and some of her old clothes.

I spent my childhood frankenstein-ing her cast offs and ‘making’ new ensembles that my mother was then forced to wear. I made my first quilt - a low volume, simple patchwork block quilt - as a teenager, and was hooked.

For the last decade and a half I’ve quilted on and off. I always had a very specific vision in mind for what I wanted to make and created my own patterns. It wasn’t until I had settled into life with a career and a baby that I became more serious about quilting and realized just how much I loved designing.

Apparently all it takes is an absence of time to make me realize what I actually wish I could be doing!

One day I decided to finally try to write a quilt pattern based on a design I created. It was way harder than I expected, but I kept at it and the rest is history! In January 2020 I launched a subscription box called Modern Makes and have been so happy to see it bring creativity into so many people’s lives. Since then, Modern Makes has taken off and become a digital membership as well, with an awesome community of quilters.

I’ve also created the Pattern Writing Academy to teach other pattern designers how to release their own patterns, grow a following, and build a quilting business they love.
